End of Year Letter from Mr. Horstrup and Arrangements for the Start of Term 1 2019-20

Dear Parent or Carer,

End of Year Letter from Mr. Horstrup and Arrangements for the Start of Term 1 2019-20

As I approach the end of my first year as Headteacher at DGSB, I wanted to write to you all to thank you for the wonderful welcome I have been afforded at our school and for the way in which so many of you have already become involved in helping to shape my views on how to take Dover Grammar School for Boys forward.

I said at open evening for Year 5 parents and children recently that being at DGSB has made me the happiest I have ever been in my professional career; a genuine and heartfelt comment on how I feel about leading our school. Indeed, DGSB is a fantastic school which looks to develop the whole person, and which offers pastoral support such as I have never seen in any of my previous schools. With your continued help and support, particularly as our exciting new build begins to take shape, I am fully confident that we will only improve on what we provide for our students, both in terms of their academic success and also their overall development as human beings and contributing members of society. As I have said on many occasions, ‘good enough’ should never be good enough for any of us, whether staff, students or parents. We should all want the very best for the boys and girls who attend our school, and I know you will feel this just as keenly as I do.

I do hope you are all able to enjoy a good break over the summer and re-charge your batteries. It has been a very busy but hugely enjoyable year on all levels, and I look forward immensely to all the things we will achieve next academic year. In the meantime, please be aware of the following arrangements for the start of term 1 2019-20:

Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd September 2019: Staff training days (INSET) - no students in school
Wednesday 4th September 2019:
• Year 7 students arrive by 8.40 a.m.
• Year 12 students arrive at 10.00 a.m. They should report directly to the main hall.
• Year 13 students arrive at 11.25 a.m. They should report directly to the main hall.
• All other students arrive from 11.05 a.m. and no later than 11.25 a.m. and go directly to their form rooms (a list with form rooms and tutors will be displayed at main reception)

Thursday 5th September 2019: normal school day.

Once again, have a lovely summer and thank you for all your support this year; I look forward to seeing our students again on Wednesday 4th September.

Yours faithfully

Phil Horstrup
