DGS CCF Adventurous Training 2018
It was a cold April morning and 49 cadets amassed at the bottom gate ready for the 7 hour bus journey to Okehampton Battle Camp for Adventurous Training.
The first day’s activity was (supposedly) dry - mountain biking and climbing. Many fell victim to the muddy bogs of Dartmoor when bikes lost traction, but good fun was had by all. The climb was a challenge, especially with wet shoes, but everyone gave it their all and most made it to the top.
Days 2 and 3 involved getting wet intentionally as we were in the sea at Newquay. 4 groups rotated through Kayaking, Monster Stand-Up-Paddle-boarding, Rafting and Surfing. Surfing was by far and away the most popular, as some groups went twice, but the instructors made everything enjoyable and everyone got thoroughly soaked.
And so it was over, and the 7 hour return journey started.
A massive thank you on behalf of the cadets to all involved, especially 2Lt Orr for organising the week and for doing such a good job.
