Westendorf Ski Trip 30/3/18 - 7/4/18: Eat, Sleep, Ski, Repeat!

The long awaited and much anticipated Austrian ski-trip got off to a wet and windy start as our intrepid DGSB skiers congregated in the school gym.  The drizzly afternoon did not dampen spirits though, and everyone's attention remained focused on the promise of impending Austrian snow rather than the current British rain!

Making good time after a long, overnight coach journey, the group arrived In Westendorf earlier than expected.  Enough snow for a snowball fight meant they were not disappointed by what they saw and were keen to settle in and unpack before heading off for their ski fittings.

Sunday saw the first day on the slopes, establishing a daily routine affectionately referred to by Mr Beaumont as 'The Daily Grind'!  Students were grouped into different ability levels for their ski and snowboard lessons, meaning brilliant progress was made by all over the course of the week. Part of 'the Daily Grind' incorporated various daily awards (both serious and fun) including 'Skier of the Day' and 'Stack of the Day'. These were highly saught after as can be seen in the attached photos!

Time off the slopes allowed everyone to have some social fun together, including a successful quiz night, a brilliant bowling trip and a tasty pizza night.  These all went down a treat with staff and students alike.  Back on the slopes Mr Beaumont developed a taste for singing and some of his best numbers can clearly be heard in a couple of the videos! Next stop the X-Factor auditions!

Overall the trip was a resounding success, with everybody having learnt new skills and having thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  Big thanks go out to all the staff who gave up part of their Easter holidays to escort the students 24/7, and particularly to Mr Beaumont who spent much time, a phenomenal amount of effort and no doubt some sleepless nights organising everything!  It is safe to say that it was much appreciated and well worth all the effort. But Mr Beaumont, don't give up the day job just yet - the X-Factor auditions may be calling but Simon Cowell is reaching for the earplugs right now!!
