SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL SPONSORED WALK - FRIDAY 22 SEPTEMBERThs sun shone as the day of the walk dawned, making conditions perfect for the School's annual charity walk. Kitted out, enthusiastic and ready to go, tutor groups left at staggered intervals, keen to embark on this physical challenge. Having paid heed to the need for sensible clothing, footwear and sufficient supplies, spirits were high and remained so as the morning progressed. Navigating and orienteering skills were tried and tested on occassions but as lunchtime approached and the hills and dales gave way to more urban surroundings, an air of competitiveness set in. Having been the first to leave, 10 Port were also the first to make it over the finish line, with a steady stream of (mostly) happy hikers following. The welcome sight of the school, and the beckoning of the weekend, diminished the niggling blisters and aching limbs, while providing a welcome sense of achievement and satisfaction. Big smiles, tired feet and a massive congratulations are due to all!
A big thank-you to all who have supported this event. All sponsorship money raised should be paid over to the school via the 'ParentPay' system, by October half-term at the latest. All funds received will then be donated to 'Pancreatic Cancer', a charity democratically chosen by tutor groups, and one which is particularly close to the school.

DGSB Student Honoured at Her Majesty's Cadet of the Year Award CeremonyIn a prestigious event held on Tuesday 26th September 2017, Cadet Staff Sergeant Callum Tyrrell of the Dover Grammar School for Boys Combined Cadet Force was honoured in his receipt of a coveted 'Cadet of the Year Award'. Callum, currently a year 12 student at the school, was one of only seven cadets throughout the whole of Kent to receive the coveted prize of 'Her Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet of the Year Award'.
The event, held at Salomons Estate, Royal Tunbridge Wells, was well attended and marks the achievement of outstanding service by an individual to their Cadet movement. A Certificate was awarded, together with a Lord-Lieutenant's Badge, which the individual is entitled to wear when in uniform. In addition, each year the Lord-Lieutenant appoints cadets to support him on official engagements throughout the year they are appointed. A high honour indeed and representative of Callum's ongoing commitment, achievement and inspiring behaviour. A massive, well-deserved congratulations are in order!
