Welcome to the DGSB Website

Whilst obviously not quite the same experience as being welcomed into the School itself, I hope this will give you at least a flavour of what life here is all about. Enough of a flavour, perhaps, to inspire an appetite for the real thing.

As a School, we try always to be looking forward to a moment in the future when our students will be looking back: a moment when, at whatever age, they take stock of lives that have turned out really well, and recognise that this was the time and place at which the foundations were laid. To bring them to that point, we provide training – very rigorous training, and a great deal of it, in many different areas – but always, running alongside, there is the opportunity for independent growth. This means an abundance of choice, and choice means the freedom to develop within a secure environment, where any mistakes can be learning experiences rather than catastrophes.

In a nutshell, we like to think that the young adults we send out eventually into the world go with a clear understanding, not only of that world but also of their potential to shape and enhance it – together, of course, with the ambition and the confidence to do so. As you browse this site, I think you’ll see plenty of evidence of how that comes about.
