Reverend Bawtree Enjoys Lunch with Award Winning Students

As part of a Governor visit, Rev. Andy Bawtree was delighted to spend time meeting our recent Diana and Change It award winners. George Rhodes, William Ridgeway-King and Jacob Button have been honoured with the Diana Certificate of Excellence for leading and managing the very successful Yu-Gi-Oh club on Saturday mornings. Joshua Watkins has been awarded the prestigious Diana Award for his service to the Kent Heritage Railway at Shepherdswell. Both Harry Oatridge and Arthur Davis were finalists at the National Change It Awards where young people are recognised for their service to the community. Harry has been leading a campaign to encourage everyone at school to buy and use more Fair Trade products whilst Arthur was honoured for his work with Amnesty International.
Rev. Bawtree commented on the excellent work these young men were doing in the community and praised them as outstanding role models for students in this school as well as local Primary schools.
Students meet Wallace and Grommit

Two students from Dover Grammar School for Boys were invited to attend the Animat-Ed Fest at Canterbury Christ Church University. The boys, Alex Adams and Jamie Laughton, were part of a team of students from all 53 schools across the District who took part in creating a short animated film about the Olympic Torch coming to Dover.
The film, a six minute animation showing a running man passing all the major sites in Dover, was shortlisted for an award in the ‘Best of Kent’ category. The film did not win but the boys were treated to the appearance of the Wallace and Grommit models used in The Curse of the Were Rabbit’ film and a presentation from Jim Parkin from Aardman Productions on the making of the movie.
Both boys enjoyed the day immensely but neither have thoughts of a future in the media industry – at the moment!
