Interim Assessments

Interim assessments form the core of how students are assessed at DGSB.

Interim assessments are always CURRENT grades awarded on the basis of evidence.

Interim assessments are then set against a flightpath towards a benchmark target which is derived from the students’ prior attainment at KS2 or KS4. Their progress is then judged using a colour system.

The interim grades over time represent staging posts in a journey towards the end benchmark target goal

 

Interim assessments are awarded either 4 (Yr11,13) or 5 (Yr7-10,12) times a year:

Late October - 8,9,10,11,12,13 FULL interim assessment; 7 Learning Scores only

Mid-December - All year groups FULL interim assessment

Mid-February - All year groups FULL interim assessment

Mid-April - All year groups FULL interim assessment

Mid/End-June, Early July - 7-10, 12 FULL interim assessment

How are Interim Assessments graded?

All subjects from Yr7-11 are graded on the new GCSE 1-9 scale in line with the table below which shows equivalencies to the old GCSE grades. Please note that F1, F2 and F3 represent our “Foundation” tier as not all students will initially be able to achieve a current grade on the 1-9 scale.

Learning scores:

Interim assessments also include a points scores to represent the approach the learning demonstrated consistently by students. The score scale is shown below:

The use of assessment data

Interim assessment data is analysed using spreadsheets together with other sources such as mock examination results.

The School has a wealth of information regarding each student’s academic progress and thee key aspects are routinely analysed:

· Progress – average sub-points/grades to benchmark targets

· Attainment – average points score

· Learning Scores – average of effort, behaviour and homework scores

This provides an accurate set of contexts for assessing how well students are doing for their prior level of attainment and within their year group. This data is used to celebrate achievement of different kinds and actively address underachievement through the Directors of Key Stages, Form Tutors, Subject Leaders, and where appropriate, the Learning Centre.
